Fresno High School is proud to offer the full IB Diploma Programme (DP) to our students. The DP is a rigorous, academically challenging two-year program that is designed to prepare students for success at the university and life beyond. The DP includes a defined curriculum with final examinations and a core requirement that leads to the awarding of an IB Diploma. The IB Diploma is recognized and welcomed by leading universities around the world.
Requirements for the IB Diploma
Over the course of the junior and senior year students will take courses in six academic areas:
Group 1 – Language A – study in the students’ first language (USA – English)
Group 2 – Language B – study in a foreign (world) language
Group 3 – Individuals and Societies – study in the social sciences
Group 4 – Experimental Sciences
Group 5 – Mathematics
Group 6 – Arts and Electives – study in the fine arts or a second subject from Group 3 or 4
Students will take an exam at the end of each course which will be graded by IB examiners. Students also complete assessment tasks in the classes which are graded by the teachers and then sent to IB or are sent directly to IB examiners for grading.
In addition to the courses in the six academic areas, DP students are required to complete the IB Diploma Core:
